A flying start for Fuoco

After a thrilling GP3 Series finale at the Yas Marina Circuit, Antonio switched race overalls and into the bright red of Prema Racing for an end of season two-day GP2 test – his last action of the 2016 season.

It was an introduction into the high-flying world of GP2 racing for Antonio to learn more about the car and what he can expect in his new team for the exciting 2017 season, which is likely to kick-off in Barcelona.

Day 1:

Antonio raced around the aesthetically pleasing Yas Marina Circuit for the first time and completed 31 laps come the end of the day. His morning session’s fastest was 1:50.940 which was 0.048 quicker than his teammate and fellow Ferrari Academy Driver, Charles Le Clerc.

With the circuit evolving throughout the day and becoming faster, Antonio continued to impress his new team by lapping in at 1:50.046, consistent for his afternoon session, which saw him complete 27 laps.

A combined 58 laps gave Antonio and his new team, Prema Racing some vital data to analyse, but more importantly gaining more experience with his new faster GP2 car.

Day 2:

It was a new day for Prema Racing and Antonio, who would try different test programmes, with an emphasis on aero package and handling for the car. He would complete 35 laps and finish the morning session with 1:35.821 as his session best.

The afternoon would paint a different picture. Antonio completed 23 laps and ended the two-day GP2 test session with his best time of 1:49.582.

Another 58 laps were completed on the second day of testing, which gave Antonio and Prema Racing more feedback and how they can prepare for the next official test session in 2017.
